I’m referring of course to \u003cstrong\u003eMiles Davis’\u003c\/strong\u003e solo over \u003cem\u003eAutumn Leaves\u003c\/em\u003e, off the classic\u003cstrong\u003e Cannonball Adderley\u003c\/strong\u003e album entitled \u003cem\u003e“Something Else”\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis rendition of \u003cem\u003eAutumn Leaves\u003c\/em\u003e is played at a fairly relaxed tempo and features Miles’ signature use of space between his phrases. Even though it’s not technically demanding to play, I believe the real challenge lies in emulating Miles’ \u003cem\u003eelastic\u003c\/em\u003e sense of timing. Listen to how he anticipates some notes while playing others slightly behind the beat.
